Marinka Dallos nasce a Lőrinci, in Ungheria, nel 1929. Si trasferisce in Italia nel 1950, quando sposa il poeta e giornalista Gianni Toti, conosciuto a Budapest in occasione di un Incontro Mondiale della Gioventù Comunista. Negli anni Sessanta, nella casa di Monte Mario a Roma, Marinka inizia a dipingere. Est e Ovest, all’epoca separati da una cortina di ferro, si incontrano. Nei suoi quadri evoca scene di vita ungheresi ed altre italiane, per lo più romane. La vita del suo villaggio natale, le contadine in costume, e poi le piazze e i monumenti di Roma, con il suo traffico urbano, carovane di zingari, cicli e ricorrenze stagionali: sono questi i temi più ricorrenti della sua produzione. Dal 1968 le sue opere iniziano a essere esposte a Parigi, Colonia, Beverly Hills, Cracovia, Londra, Budapest all’interno di mostre di ambito naïf. Negli anni Settanta costituisce il gruppo dei “Romanaïf”. Eppure definire l’arte di Marinka Dallos “naïf” è discutibile. Lo diceva lei stessa nel 1985: “Ho formulato il mio pensiero in modo del tutto spontaneo. Non per caso sono una pittrice naïf, seppure la definizione abbia numerosi significati. Non sono innocente e neppure incolta. L’arte naïf è anche un’ideologia, perché appartiene alle classi subordinate. Il pittore naïf conserva la visione naturale delle cose.”  

Marinka Dallos muore a Roma nel 1992. Il suo archivio è conservato presso la nostra associazione culturale “La Casa Totiana”, a Roma.

IL MARINKATALOGO: GLI INIZI

Nel 2013 riceviamo una email di Mirjam Dènes, una giovanissima studiosa ungherese di storia dell’arte, nata a Lőrinci, il paese natale di Marinka. Ci scrive perché vorrebbe iniziare a studiare l’opera pittorica di Marinka Dallos, con l’intento di costruire un catalogo dei suoi dipinti. Mirjam trascorre i mesi estivi del 2013 alla Casa Totiana. Sistema la biblioteca della pittrice. Organizza l’archivio delle riproduzioni delle opere. Contatta i proprietari di cui rimane notizia nell’archivio e inizia la catalogazione dei dipinti. Sono circa 35 quelle conservati presso La Casa Totiana, alcuni dei quali esposti permanentemente presso i locali della Scuola Primaria Lante della Rovere, in Via Tevere. Rispetto al centinaio di opere, stimate inizialmente, Mirjam Dènes restituisce a Marinka un corpus pittorico di oltre trecento esemplari, distribuiti in collezioni private, gallerie e musei europei ed extraeuropei. Ne emerge una complessità pittorica che arricchisce di chiaroscuri il senso stesso della definizione di “naïf”.

Attraverso alcune borse di studio, e il sostegno de La Casa Totiana, il lavoro continua con l’affiancamento di Hajnalka Korb, giovane fotografa che inizia una campagna di riproduzioni delle opere pittoriche di Marinka Dallos.

Il catalogo, intitolato “Marinka Dallos. L’opera pittorica”, è praticamente concluso nella versione ungherese. Nasce in formato digitale e si compone di oltre 400 pagine a colori, impaginate da Hajnalka Korb. Il prossimo passaggio, indispensabile per la chiusura del lavoro, è realizzare l’equivalente versione in italiano per offrire un catalogo bilingue.

La campagna di crowdfunding nasce per coprire gli ultimi costi di traduzione e impaginazione della versione italiana e far fronte ad alcune spese relative ai diritti di riproduzione dei dipinti conservati in diverse istituzioni museali. Ogni vostro contributo sarà per noi prezioso per mettere a disposizione uno strumento di reale valorizzazione dell’opera pittorica di Marinka Dallos. Marinkatalogo – The first catalog of paintings by Marinka Dallos

Marinka Dallos was born in Lőrinci, Hungary in 1929. She moved to Italy in 1950 when she married Gianni Toti, an Italian poet and journalist, whom she had met in Budapest during the World Festival of Communists Youth. She started to paint in the 1960s in their home at Monte Mario, Rome. East and West, separated by an iron curtain at that time, met. Her paintings evoke the scenes of daily life in Hungary and in Italy, mostly those in Rome. Her most common, and oft-returning themes are life in her hometown, peasants in traditional costumes, squares and monuments in busy Rome, gipsy caravans and series of the four seasons. From 1968 on, exhibitions of naif art host her paintings in Paris, Cologne, Beverly Hills, Krakow, London, and Budapest (among others). She was the founder of the artist group named “Romanaïf”, which was born in the 1970s. Despite all this, tagging Marinka Dallos as a “naif” artist is controversial. It was herself who said in 1985: “I shape my thoughts in a spontaneous way. It is not a coincidence that I am a naif painter, although this definition has multiple meanings. Naif art is ideology, too, since it is linked to the subordinate classes. A naif painter conserves the natural vision of things.” Marinka Dallos died in Rome in 1992. Her archive is preserved at the cultural association called “La Casa Totiana” in Rome.

Marinkatalogo: where it started

In 2013 we received an e-mail from Mirjam Dénes, a young art historian from Hungary, whose hometown is Lőrinci, the same town where Marinka Dallos had been born, too. She contacted us because she planned to start a research project on the paintings of Marinka, with the intention of creating a catalog about her surviving artworks. Mirjam spent the summer of 2013 in La Casa Totiana. She arranged our archive of reproductions and contacted those collectors of whom she could find information in the archive. There are around 35 paintings by Marinka in the collection of La Casa Totiana, some of which are permanently exhibited in Lante della Rovere primary School, in Via Tevere, Rome. Although we did not expect an oeuvre larger than a hundred of paintings, Mirjam Dénes succeeded in reconstructing a corpus of more than three hundred paintings to be found in private collections, galleries, and museums across and even outside Europe. The pictorial complexity of Marinka Dallos’s art which enriches the debate itself on what “naif” means, emerges from this project.

Thanks to the financial aid of various scholarships and to that of La Casa Totiana, Hajnalka Korb, a young Hungarian photographer joined in and started a campaign, through which she made reproductions of all the artworks by Marinka Dallos within reach.

Why are we turning to you?

The work on the catalogue entitled “The pictorial oeuvre of Marinka Dallos”, written in Hungarian language is concluded. It will be published in a digital format with more than 400 colour pages, designed by Hajnalka Korb. The next, fundamental step for the closure of the project is to create the equivalent version in Italian language, too, in order to make it bilingual.

We start this crowdfunding campaign so that it enables us to cover the costs of the translation and editing of the catalogue in Italian language and pay for the copyright of some paintings preserved in various museums. Every contribution is precious to us since it facilitates the distribution of a tool through which the recognition of the artistic creation of Marinka Dallos might be realized. MARINKATALOGO – Dallos Marinka festői életművének első katalógusa

Dallos Marinka Magyarországon, Lőrinciben született 1929-ben. 1950-ben költözött Olaszországba, mikor hozzáment a költő és újságíró Gianni Totihoz, akit egy évvel korábban Budapesten ismert meg. Festeni a 60-as években monte marioi otthonukban kezdett Rómában. Az akkor vasfüggönnyel elválasztott két világ, kelet és nyugat így találkozott. Képein egyszerre idézi szemünk elé a hazai magyar és az olasz, első sorban is a római élet pillanatait. Világában szülőfalujának figurái, a népviseletbe öltözött parasztok, a római terek és műemlékek, azok városi pezsgése, a cigányok karavánjai, a természet változása, az évszakok ciklusai keverednek, variálódnak. Ezek alkotásainak leggyakoribb témái. 1968-tól művei egyre többször kerülnek bemutatásra többek között Párizsban, Kölnben, a Beverly Hillsen, Krakkóban, Londonban és Budapesten is a naívokkal közös kiállításokon. A 70-es években pedig megalakul a “Romanaïf”, melynek ő az egyik alapító tagja. Ugyanakkor Dallos Marinka művészetét tisztán naívank tekinteni vitatható volna. Ő maga 1985-ben a következőket mondta: “Gondolataimat spontán módon alakítom. Nem véletlenül vagyok naív festő, ám ez a kifejezés számos jelentéssel bír. Nem vagyok sem ártatlan, sem műveletlen. A naív művészet ideológia is, mivel gyakran az alsóbb osztályokhoz kapcsolódik. A naív művész a dolgok természetes arcát örökíti meg.” Dallos Marinka 1992-ben, Rómában halt meg. Archívumát jelenleg La Casa Totiana nevű kulturális intézetünk gondozza.

A MARINKATALOGO  –  A KEZDETEK

2013-ban kaptunk egy e-mailt Dénes Mirjamtól, egy fiatal magyar művészettörténésztől, aki Marinkához hasonlóan Lőrinciben született. Azért keresett meg minket, hogy megismerhesse Dallos Marinka megmaradt műveit, s katalógusba szedhesse azokat. A nyári hónapjait Rómában töltötte, rendszerezte a művésznő könyvtárát, és festményeinek archívumunkban fellelhető reprodukcióit. Lassanként felvette a kapcsolatot azokkal a magántulajdonosokkal is, akikre a jegyzetek között utalásokat talált. Marinka képei közül mintegy 35-öt őrzünk mi magunk, ezek közül több jelenleg is megtekinthető a Lante della Rovere Általános Iskolában a Via Teverén, egy állandó kiállításon. Az ezek alapján a kezdetekkor nagyjából 100 darabosnak sejtett festői életmű helyett Dénes Mirjamnak egy 300 művet is meghaladó életművet sikerült feltérképeznie, melynek darabjait magángyűjtemények, galériák, európai és Európa határain kívüli múzeumok őrzik. Különböző tanulmányi ösztöndíjaknak hála – természetesen a  La Casa Totiana folyamatos támogatása mellett – Korb Hajnalka, egy fiatal magyar fotós is csatlakozhatott a munkához, így elkészülhettek Dallos Marinka jelenleg ismert, elérhető képeinek reprodukciói.

Projektünk során igyekszünk megmutatni Dallos Marinka művészetének összetettségét, mely egyszersmind rámutat a naív művészet értelmezésének, megközelíthetőségének sokdoldalúságára is.

AMIÉRT MOST ÖNÖKHÖZ FORDULUNK:

A “Dallos Marinka festői életműve” című katalógus magyar nyelven már elkészült. Digitális formában hamarosan elérhető lesz, közel 400 színes oldalon, Korb Hajnalka szerkesztésében. A következő lépés az olasz verzió elkészítése, hogy két nyelven jelenhessen meg a katalógus, s az Olaszroszágban élt és alkotó művésznő munkáit ne csak szülőhazájában ismerhessék meg szélesebb körben.

Crowdfunding kampányunkat azért indítjuk most el, hogy az összegyűjtött összegből elkészülhessen a kötet olasz fordítása és szerkesztése, illetve fedezni tudjuk a különböző múzeumi intézményeknek fizetendő jogdíjakat a náluk őrzött képek reprodukcióinak közlése után.
